I first got to know Birmingham  a little when I was at Shrewsbury School (1958-61). I went on a school trip to at least one concert there, and at least once, when I was visiting David Ratcliff’s home in Sutton Coldfield, we were driven into the centre of the city.<\/p>\n

But it was during my three year degree course at Birmingham College of Commerce (1964-67. This college became part of the City of Birmingham Polytechnic in 1971, the University of Central England in 1992 and Birmingham City University in 2007).<\/p>\n
